Slowing Down to Gear Up!
Asking for help is hard, almost as hard as resting. I have to get better at doing both if I intend to do this rather physical job of yarn dyeing for the long haul!

One of our New Year’s intentions is to blog more in 2018. We kind of fell away from blogging last year as we got busier with shows and travel. And today is the perfect day to blog because it’s SNOWING! It been a snow drought this winter here in Saint Paul, so a snow …
Episode 13 features Amy Detjen, wonderful person and insanely great knit teacher! Amy and I discuss a WORLD of stuff, much of it having NO relation of fiber or knitting, but we certainly have a lovely, fun visit!
Episode 12 features Courtney Kelley, owner (along with Kate Gagnon Osborn) of Kelbourne Woolens, the sole distributor of The Fiber Co Yarns.
Episode 11 is a visit with the popular and gracious Romi Hill! Romi has been tearing up the knit-alongs for a few years now, and has become a favorite among knitters who enjoy a beautiful and satisfying shawl pattern.
Our tenth episode features knit designer, yarn shop owner and knit technique teacher, Brooke Nico. We discuss Brooke’s entry into the knit design world (she was discovered having a soda at Shrafts – kind of…) and our mutual love of history, knitting and our families.
Our ninth episode features Biggan Ryd Dups, a friend of mine who also happens to be an amazing hand knit designer and creator of an incredible line of colorful yarns that are a dream to knit with!
Here’s a lovely conversation with our sole employee, Becca Foster, who works with us a few hours a week (sometimes much more!) and will be a fixture in our booth at our various fiber show appearances.
This is a meandering, wandering, pointless talk – but it’s funny, and diverting, and do you really need anything else than that from a free yarn podcast?
Our seventh podcast is with the unparalleled and very colorful Lucy Neaby.
I love Lucy. One of the first knitting classes I took was with Lucy at Stitches back in 2001, and I’ve loved her since then! It’s an extraordinary thing that I feel I can call her a friend – but she’s so darned friendly that it’s EASY to love her.
After a brief hiatus (okay a few months…) due to general busy-ness of a hand dyeing business, a major move (house and aforementioned business) AND an old computer finally giving up the ghost, we have achieved PODCAST again! My new MacBook Pro allows me to do cool things like actually read emails AND edit a …
Our sixth podcast is with a wonderful crocheter, voice teacher, singer & designer, Dora Ohrenstein. Dora started the influential website Crochet Insider where you can find information on her patterns, classes, blog and even a video of Dora performing as a soloist with the Philip Glass ensemble!
Our fifth podcast is with amazing friend, designer, food scientist & all around great woman, Ellen SIlva. Along with her sister, Jan, Ellen is 1/2 of the Twinset Designs franchise and co-host of the Twinset Podcast.
Ellen’s been designing for ModeKnit yarn for a while and has created the amazingly beautiful Diana’s Quiver sock and the Foam Flower sock (soon to be available at our booth and on our website)
Ellen and I discuss social justice, working bodies, the joy of skipping and, of course, knitting!
Our fourth podcast is with one of my favorite designers, teachers and tech editors, Kate Atherley.
Kate is SHEER delight, such a wonderful woman to sit down with and have a nice chat and a comfortable knit.
Our third podcast is a treat featuring beloved crochet designer Robyn Chachula AND inspiring double-knitting designer Alisdair Post Quinn! We didn’t exactly mean to double up, and the moment when Alisdair joins our podcast is one of my favorites in our short period of recording these interviews!
Imagine if you will a car ride from New York City to Maryland in the spring of 2004. Gerry is at the wheel, Annie is swatching with silk, translating an idea that has percolated for months into a garment. A fabulous, romantic, lovely garment now known as The Corset Tank Top. The corset slowly takes …
