July Was SUPPOSED To Be S L O W . . .

On The Pier!

It’s been a busy Summer – a WONDERFUL Summer – but so busy!

Kathleen and I are doing as many fiber festivals as we feel we’re able, and each time we do a new one we look at each other and say, in unison,

“Should we add ANOTHER SHOW?”

Our answer is, of course, “HELL YES!” (We swear. Sorry.)

Wait, who’s DRIVING?

But with all of our online sales, fiber shows & festivals & a few wholesale accounts, we were REALLY looking forward to the month of July with very few commitments.

Boy were WE wrong!

It’s been a VERY busy month.  We’re using our “down” time to make some hard (but necessary) decisions, develop some new FLOW colors, apply to a few new shows and learn to streamline some of our business choices.

I feel SO fortunate that Kathleen is along with me on this journey, we are both folks who can learn from our mistakes, and don’t feel the need to remind our partner of past missteps.

We’re lucky!

We Live In Paradise, St. Paul, MN!

We’ve downsized the amount of colors in our Mini Skein Sets, and at the same time we’ve increased the amount of yarn in each mini skein.

Starting now, you can purchase any mini skein set in SIX edited colors in 50g or 25g sets (300g and 150g total, respectively)

The price has increased slightly, but only because the amount of yarn has increased, too!

Kathleen, showing off.

We’re putting together a few new exciting clubs; new themes, new yarns, and of course, brand new COLORS!

The clubs were SUCH an exciting element for us, allowing me to play with new colors and allowing Kathleen to experiment with useful and wonderful little gifties for each kit shipment.

Stay tuned, we’ll be announcing our new clubs in August, and each club will have a limited number of places!

We’ll be updating all of our customers and friends as the Summer continues, BOY are we looking forward to a beautiful Fall!

Hey Folks!

madison_knit_in_booth12015 is SUCH an exciting and busy Summer, if it seems that at times The ModeKnit Yarn Team of Annie & Kathleen (& Becca part time!) has been incommunicado, it’s because we’re crazy busy.  And busy is GOOD!

As we grow our company and develop some wholesale accounts, do more fiber shows and just generally get a better handle on WHAT we’re actually doing, we’ll be making changes and improvements (hopefully the changes WILL be improvements!) on our product and on our website!

So stay tuned, we’ll be updating you here on the blog, and also in our newsletter (sign up here!)

Mini Skein Changes

A Few Of Our Current Mini Skein Sets
A Few Of Our Current Mini Skein Sets

We’re changing the put-up of our mini skein sets, and the number of colors included in each set.  The Mini Skein Sets are a labor of love and we really enjoy making them, but the truth is, they are pretty labor intensive.

In order to create a better and more consistent product, we’ll be changing the number of colors in each “No Spoilers” set to SIX, and the skein sizes will be 25g (6 skeins x 25g = 150g set) and 50g (6 skeins x 50g = 300g set)

Pick Your Favorite No Spoilers Colors Contest!

One set of each colorway will be awarded to at random to a registered survey taker. Pick your favorite six colors from each set!

The contest closes on Saturday, July 18th at 11:59 pm. We’ll announce the winners via email and this blog on Monday July 20th.

We’ve added a new yarn, ModeLuxe DK, and boy is it DELICIOUS! ModeLuxe DK is a 4-ply 50% Silk / 50% Superwash Merino DK weight blend. If you’ve been to our last few shows, you’ve had the opportunity to see and feel this amazing yarn.

Fiber Love In LoveLand

We just spent the last week in Loveland, Colorado, vending and teaching at the inaugural Interweave Fiber Fest.  Two days driving out, two days driving back, three days of vending and teaching, one day of taping online classes for Interweave.

It was an amazingly full week that just FLEW by!

Boom! Shredded tire.
Boom! Shredded tire.

Minor road mishap just outside of Sterling, CO.  One of the tires on the U Haul wagon went flat! THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP.

We pulled to the side of the interstate by mile marker 138, waiting for U haul roadside assistance, passing the time the way fiber folks do (aka Knitting).

A nice service guy came out to help (aka ZZ Topp), and we were back on the road again, headed to Fort Collins and Loveland.

Always time for knitting!

Interweave YarnFest was held at the Embassy Suites hotel and conference center in Loveland, CO. The weather turned gloomy with snow and rain, so it was great to have everything under one roof. The classrooms were right near the market, our room was right upstairs in the fancy glass elevator.

Thanks Interweave, it was an AMAZING weekend!

Interweave Yarn fest Booth 2The market was HUGE! So many vendors from all over and so many shoppers!  We met many amazing fiber folks!

We had so many goodies for sale; FLOW, mini skein sets (including the new Game of Thrones set) and  Slippy Cowl kits. ModeFlax was a huge hit, and so was Annie’s Knitting Millinery book.

We unveiled our Game Of Thrones colors, Dragon Dances, and pretty much sold out of everything with a Dragon we put out!

By Saturday afternoon we had sold out of ModeSock in FLOW and sold most of our mini skein sets. We met so many talented folks who knit and crochet. Our Fingal’s Cave Scarf and Granny Square Shug were popular samples.

Annie’s classes were sold out as well, and the students were quite talented – fearless and confident and full of knitterly self-respect. Perfect students! New techniques were learned, and skills were honed.

We headed for home on Sunday afternoon pulling into Saint Paul late Monday afternoon. A whole week on the road!!
